Holding a conversation in your target language may be more stressful and time-consuming than the exercises on Duolingo can prepare you for. The Duolingo Arabic course is short and very incomplete, it teaches the future and present tense but doesn`t get as far as teaching the past tense. It also isn`t very well organized. It mixes beginner exercises where you learn alphabet sounds in with the intermediate exercises where you are forming full sentences. If your work involves Japanese at all, it's sometimes a benchmark for applicants (usually this is N3 and up). I took N5 last December and am on the last checkpoint of Duolingo, I think it's a lofty claim to suggest you can pass N5 on Duolingo alone.
