Spreading your character in 5 classes doesn't necessary mean better. Neoseeker seems like a guy who designs his builds on paper with lvl 20 in mind but never plays them. For example delaying your spell progression in any full caster is horrible, and should be done only in very specific cases and with great care.
As for benefits of cavalier - probably mostly mount/mounted combat.
