Sounds like the key code is switched off because you replaced the key fob battery. Try unlocking the car manual with the key in the door lock. The 2011and 2012 cruze had a different trunk release switch and it allowed water intrusion. This corroded the switch so it eventually would stop working. Before that point the water would short out the switch causing the trunk to open on its own.
