actually the rapier is the only one really useful in both attack and parry departments: only first weapons and curved swords can also both attack and parry in left hand. Fist L1 is terrible but the parry is the best by far. Curved swords have a decent L1 but the L2 parry is pretty damn bad, actually way worse than the rapier.

Which guide? I've seen multiple that favor the buckler. The buckler has the most favorable window in all of their games. Followed by the target shield.
